Craniovertebral Instability: Case Series And A Review Of Literature.

Authors

Abstract

The craniovertebral junction is a complex joint in the human body that houses vital neural and vascular structures while achieving the most mobility of any segment within the spine. It also encompasses a highly mobile joint in C1C2 and a relatively fixed joint at C0C1 in the entire spine. The above factors have a huge inclination to the biomechanics of this joint and subsequent instability. The surgical options determine the range of motion compromised and the eventual stability of the joint. In this series, we look at a series of cases done at the Kenyatta National Hospital and review of literature as pertains current management principles.
